After their resurgence in early 2023 with the successful album Secular Age and an accompanying tour, the renowned and critically acclaimed rock noir band is once again hitting the road, likely for the last time in a while, with the Sweet Mercies Tour.
"Dark and masterful. Once again, the wait has been well worth it." – Gaffa, 5/6
"Secular Age is a mature effort from a band whose high quality and powerful delivery deserve a broader audience. With this swiftly crafted album, The Awesome Welles are reaching new heights." – GFR
The turbulent pandemic era, which disrupted much of the Danish music industry, ironically marked a return for this unique rock band, whose Secular Age thrilled both old fans and new. In Secular Age, The Awesome Welles stripped back to the essentials while adding fresh nuances to their timeless sound. The ten songs are refreshingly free of current trends and conventions. The primal, monstrous, and simmering chaos alternates with an unprecedented calm and surrender, creating a soundscape—often beautiful and hopeful, at times dark and stained—in which Danish-Canadian theologian and frontman Adam Allen explores rarely trodden paths in rock lyricism.
With a distinctive preference for analog and acoustic instruments and a raw, straightforward, and hand-played approach, these dark rockers were once heralded as future trailblazers in rock music, both domestically and internationally, before label issues stalled their momentum.
Since their comeback, however, this timeless rock band—which, in addition to its two core members, frequently features musicians from bands like Blaue Blume, Kellermensch, Brimheim, and other rock acts—has firmly reestablished itself as a must-watch for alternative rock fans, with their uniquely dark, explosive, and emotional live performances.
The Sweet Mercies Tour will be the name for the 2025 performances, carrying the band and audience together from winter to spring for joyful reunions in both familiar and yet-to-be-visited cities before the inception of new material:
“It has been a blessing for us in recent years to meet the people who give life to our work and for whom it holds meaning. That’s why it feels both inviting and intuitive to connect with them as we prepare to turn inward and begin creating something new,” says frontman Adam Allen.
