Mark Your Calendar for May 8th: Teitur and Girls in Airports Reinterpret Faroese Folk Music

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A STUDENT TO BUY A TICKET

In 2022, Faroese singer-songwriter Teitur joined forces with Danish indie-jazz band Girls in Airports to create brand-new music that blends their distinct sonic landscapes. The collaboration premiered at VEGA in Copenhagen and has since evolved into a broader project, including an album produced by internationally acclaimed producer Bruce Lampcov, set for release later this year.

At the heart of the music lies Faroese folk songs, known as Skjaldur. Reflecting on Teitur's childhood in the Faroe Islands and youth in Denmark, the material draws inspiration from traditional Faroese rhymes and melodies, which he and Girls in Airports have reinterpreted in radically new directions. Their sound explores genres such as jazz, electronic, and indie, breathing fresh life into these cultural treasures.

The motivation behind the project is to preserve and renew Faroese Skjaldur, a cornerstone of Faroese culture. Their joint effort casts these melodies and stories in a new light, aiming to make Skjaldur accessible to a younger generation.
