The award-winning Danish duo Svaneborg Kardyb has, with over three albums in just five years, excelled in their beautiful fusion of crackling Scandinavian jazz and minimalist grooves. In the fall of 2024, their fourth full-length album will be released, followed by a series of concert dates around Scandinavia.
Svaneborg Kardyb consists of Nikolaj Svaneborg (Wurlitzer, Juno, piano) and Jonas Kardyb (drums, percussion), an award-winning duo from Denmark. Svaneborg Kardyb originates from Aalborg in Northern Jutland, where they first met in 2013 and discussed the idea of starting a duo. However, it took six years before the project was realized. Svaneborg Kardyb is a duo, a format that gives them a lot of space to fill or leave empty: “We enjoy the minimalism and the focus it brings to the interplay. We come from quite different musical backgrounds, Nikolaj from Scandinavian jazz and Jonas from roots, blues, and folk, so our music is like the sum of our personal contributions. It doesn’t try to be more than that. It's quite unique to be able to share this musical language and friendship."
With sources of inspiration such as Nils Frahm, Esbjörn Svensson, and Jan Johansson's masterpiece Jazz På Svenska, their music is an exquisite and delightful blend of beautiful melodies, delicate minimalism, catchy grooves, subtle electronic vibes, Nordic atmosphere, and organic interplay – all underscored by an unreserved desire to play together.
Following the release of the duo's first albums, 'Knob' in 2019 and 'Haven' in 2020, their third album 'Over Tage' came out in 2022, marking their debut release with Gondwana Records; a label known for hosting names like Mammal Hands, Portico Quartet, and GoGo Penguin, whose music, like Svaneborg Kardyb’s, seeks to explore the uncharted space between genres.
Since the release of Over Tage, Svaneborg Kardyb has toured extensively. In addition to major Danish concerts, including a sold-out show at Bremen Teater in Copenhagen, the duo has played in a total of 13 different countries worldwide, including the iconic Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the legendary Love Supreme Jazz Festival in England, to name just a few.
