What happens when you take 3 of the finest jazz musicians and make them play indie folk, rock?
Singer, cellist and songwriter Soma Allpass' new band, Soma and the loved ones, will play at Studenterhuset on May 30.
In a review by Ivan Rod in Gaffa it is written:
The Danish cellist, composer and singer, Soma Allpass, has teamed up with the Loved Ones – that is, Kristian Tangvik (tuba and keyboards), Nils Bo Davidsen (guitar and electric bass) and Jeppe Gram (drums) – and released a fascinating, beautiful, self-titled album with eleven new and highly original songs/tracks.
The four musicians have at least two things in common – they possess a sense of tradition, as far as genres such as chamber music, jazz and rock are concerned, and they have a desire and ability to translate their ever-living curiosity into transformations within said genres.
But at the same time, there is something absolutely contemporary about Soma and the Loved Ones’ handling of their own material. Something at once completely simple and richly faceted, almost future-proof. And this is of course due first and foremost to the compositions and arrangements, but also to the instrumental surplus of the individual musicians and the constellation. There is an authenticity to the expression as a whole and a consistent cohesiveness in the songs – even though they pull in slightly different directions in terms of genre.
