ozzy puts the past two years under the microscope with his debut album Hyben – a story about trying to hold on to yourself in a dogma-filled hip-hop world, where success is measured in money and status – and rarely in actually feeling good.
Since ozzy released his first single Samme side in 2023, things have moved fast for the 24-year-old rapper and singer. Once an introverted and shy kid in Helsingør with a love for SoundCloud rap, spending countless hours producing music in his bedroom, he now finds himself on stages and in clubs across the country, performing alongside some of Denmark’s biggest artists – with the very songs he once kept to himself.
That contrast is at the core of ozzy’s debut album, as he keeps asking himself: Can you stay true to who you are as a reserved person when suddenly all of Denmark is watching?
“These past years have been crazy – my life has completely changed. Music has become my job, but at the end of the day, I’m just not very hip-hop by nature. Performing on stage was something I had to learn from scratch, and honestly, I’d much rather be at home than at a nightclub. So becoming a full-time artist has really pushed me out of my comfort zone,” ozzy explains.
With Hyben as an allegory for breaking out of your shell to blossom into a rose, the album is thematically and sonically divided into an A-side and a B-side. The A-side is heavy with trap beats and lyrics from a self-aware ozzy on the verge of collapsing under the weight of people’s expectations. The B-side shifts into a more pop-driven, romantic sound, where stories of love and family take over the lyrical universe.
Hyben is produced by ozzy himself together with Emil Falk, Rob&Jenne, Nicki Pooyandeh, Anders Ingstrup Johansen, and Noah Farlot. The album also features Benny Jamz, MAS, and KESI.
