JESSIE KA & EMIL feat. STRYG – When North Jutland Sound Meets Strings

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A STUDENT TO BUY A TICKET

This is a plus-one concert: with a valid student ID, you can bring one guest on your concert ticket.

This evening, STRYG invites you into a sensory musical space where two North Jutland artists reinterpret their songs in brand-new arrangements for string ensemble. The music has been gently rearranged by composer Simon Buhl Sørensen, with the aim of amplifying the artists’ unique sound – not changing it.

Together with the classical ensemble Admeta, a new musical landscape emerges where rhythmic and classical music blend, adding a new emotional depth to the songs.

STRYG is both a concert and an artistic development project – created to give talented North Jutland artists the opportunity to explore their music in new formats while offering the audience a rare and intimate concert experience. Look forward to an evening filled with presence, curiosity, and newly dressed North Jutland sound – when familiar songs take shape in strings and silence.

About the Artists:

Jessie Ka

Gaffa reviewed Jessie Ka’s debut album (released in October 2024) with the words: “Jessie Ka’s debut album is a middle finger to suburban conformity.” Her soft and feminine vocals carry an understated, sarcastic bite, and her songs about growing up in "the dark North Jutland" explore life as a woman and society’s expectations of what a “real woman” is supposed to be.

She played a release tour in fall 2024 and has supported acts such as Jacob Bellens, Gretha, Lydmor, Tessa, and Kalaset. Jessie Ka was also nominated for the 2025 GAFFA Awards in the categories Danish Artist of the Year and Danish Pop Release of the Year.

EMIL

EMIL wraps punk energy and gutter poetry in glossy pop productions and calls it penance pop. Even though EMIL has only released his debut single “Har I Hørt Om EMIL?” (“Have You Heard About EMIL?”), he was a finalist in DR P3’s KarriereKanonen and has already played numerous shows – including SPOT Festival, Smukfest, and as support for Artigeardit + Lamin and Patina.

Bands of Tomorrow gave him 5 out of 6 stars and wrote: “EMIL really got the crowd going and showcased strong musicianship – he could definitely become one of Denmark’s next big upcoming artists.”

Gaffa wrote: “He looks exactly like he sounds. A believable goofball with some rap and a little extra punch. A great frontman.”

Admeta String Quartet

Admeta String Quartet is a string ensemble based in Aarhus, consisting of Freja Guldberg Larsen (violin), Selma Trammitzke Milling (violin), Kirsten Buus Szakacs (viola), and Maria Kolby Sonstad (cello). All members studied at and have ties to the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.

Music and a shared dream of expressing deep emotions brought the four musicians together. Their repertoire is broad – ranging from folk to classical to rhythmic music.

The quartet has played together for around four years and, in addition to their own concerts, they’ve recorded film scores and appeared on various albums with other artists.

About the Composer

Simon Buhl Sørensen holds a degree in Rhythmic Composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. He is especially interested in developing the Nordic sound, which he describes as melodic, grand, dark, and lightly melancholic.

Simon is an award-winning musician who has played in several original bands across genres. He has also collaborated with artists and ensembles such as Malte Ebert, Kalaha, and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
