S/He Is Still Here

The portrait documentary about Genesis P-Orridge, founder of COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, and Psychic TV, is an intimate, raw, and deeply personal portrayal of a life in constant transformation – a life that redefined the boundaries of gender, artistic expression, spirituality, occultism, and family life.

Through new footage (shot shortly before the controversial musician and performer’s death in 2020), as well as fascinating archival material and conversations with those who knew Genesis P-Orridge (including William Burroughs, Timothy Leary, and other thinkers), the film reflects on the possibilities and limitations we have in creating identity. It also highlights the protagonist’s lifelong struggle against mainstream morality and the fight for full autonomy over one’s own body – with all the challenges that entailed.
