AYJO Sets New Standards 2025

With a clear vision to challenge and expand the boundaries of jazz, Aalborg Youth Jazz Orchestra continues its mission to highlight the essential female voices shaping jazz today.

The project is inspired by American drummer and composer Terri Lyne Carrington and her groundbreaking work New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers. Carrington’s initiative has created a new reference point in jazz history, demonstrating how powerful female voices have shaped – and continue to shape – the art form.

Building on this vision, AYJO presents a program of music written by female composers, reimagined through the energy and interpretation of a young generation. The concert marks an important step toward a more inclusive jazz scene, where history and the present merge to inspire the musicians of tomorrow.

Under the direction of Anton Langdahl, AYJO brings a new generation of talented young musicians to the stage – offering a strong and timely vision of what jazz can sound like today and tomorrow.
