Aske Stubkjær is a Danish pianist, composer and sound artist. He works with piano authenticity, and intends to create presence and immersion. It is rarely a question of hitting something specific, but of letting intuitions speak its language through his fingers into the piano right here, right now. In many situations, he lets sounds and visual observations inspire him for a specific composition - and this is often implemented in the music by either small phone recordings or as a musical recreation.

In 2022, Aske released his debut EP “Tænker Tanker” and was therefore selected for JazzDanmark's annual Jazz Competition (2.0). This led him to his debut concerts at several of the country's major venues, and opened the door to DR P8 Jazz where he has since received over 250 airplays and has also received airplay on DR P2. During the same period he played several support concerts for Svaneborg Kardyb.

JazzNyt writes, among other things: about the debut release: "The album can easily function as a soundscape or background music. But it only opens up when you get down to the many layers that unfold beneath the rattling piano. Tænker tanker is a successful and recommendable album for those who need a calm album with depth"

Byens Beat writes about the EP "Tænker Tanker": "It is absolutely enormously contrasting with the piano's beautiful dreamy and almost longing melodies and the real sounds in the layer just below, which keep you grounded in reality. It sharpens all your senses because you don't just listen superficially, but actually feel the music. You almost feel how the stool creaks a little under you when you wave over the piano, you imagine how the piano's lid closes, and you can almost smell the salt water from the sound of the waves crashing"

In 2025, Aske is ready to open up her new universe. He is currently delving further into the creation of music that combines Nordic jazz tradition with experimental soundscapes and present piano compositions. My upcoming works will continue to explore the musical potential of silence and tranquility, as well as creating narratives that balance between improvisation and structured composition. In collaboration with musicians Daniel Skov Nielsen, Steffen Nordenstam and Casper Hejlesen, he works to create a new musical universe where acoustic and electronic elements merge into organic soundscapes.
