NEW MUSIC BY MARTIN GRANUM

Niels Hausgaard meets Vince Mendoza… or… they don't but how would a big band concert sound if you tried to combine what they stand for? Thus: dazzling humorous mediation and Grammy winning big band music. Nordkraft Big Band's guitarist Martin Granum has set himself up for this task.

Martin Granum has turned his compositional process on it's head by beginning with ”the good story” and use it as a starting point to write music for Nordkraft Big Band.

The result is a whole collection of groovy, swinging, humorous and beautiful big band songs. Musically we will visit the famous locations like Råbjerg Mile (where selected episodes of Star Wars are filmed!), Skagen (in week 29, the so-called "Hellrup week". This can cause some clashes. Both musically and in Skagen…). The vikings at Lindholm Hill have also been given their own piece of music, and Martin Granum also reworks selected childhood traumas in tracks like ”The Monster From the Deep”, ”Broken Speedos” and more. Don't miss this festive and entertaining bigband evening. We're already promising that it will be unforgettable.

The concert is Nordkraft Big Band's prelude to going in to the studio to record the music by Martin Granum. It will be released later this year. The ”Big Band Stories” project has also received support from the Danish Arts Foundation and the Royal Academy of Music.

NORDKRAFT BIG BAND

Nordkraft Big Band is all of Denmark's North Jutland big band, which in recent years has established itself as one of the country's most active, visionary and serious ensembles in contemporary rhythmic music.

They are internationally recognised and have worked together with among others John Clayton (US), Bob Mintzer (US), Robben Ford (US), Sinne Eeg, Bobo Moreno, Margrete Grarup, Aalborg Symfoniorkester, Nikolaj Bentzon, Aviaja Lumholt, Veronica Mortensen, Jimmy Jørgensen, Zika, Martin Brygmann, Søren Sko, Dorthe Gerlach, Niels Jørgen Steen, Szhirley, Kaya Brüel, Birthe Kjær, Rasmus Bjerg and many more.

The concert is a part of Nordkraft Big Band's project Big Band Night, where we focus on presenting jazz and big band music to young people in particular and in the long term building and securing an audience for the genre in the future. The Big Band Night concerts are supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, Spar Nord Fonden and Aalborg Municipality.
