Afskum.

The name reeks of villainy. According to the dictionary, an "afskum" is a despicable person. And the name might initially suggest metal, but reality couldn't be further from it. Instead, imagine keyboard-driven pop songs in minor keys, delivered by a charming, slightly slurred vocalist, singing regretful lyrics from a thoughtful mind. It's music that flows easily but carries more weight than the surface reveals.

Behind Afskum, we find Prince Askar and his tales of young life. GAFFA: "With a wild mix of ice-cold synth keys, energetic drums, and purposeful bass lines, the instrumental part of Afskum sounds like something Future Islands could come up with. But then there's the main character, Prince Askar. First, there's his distinct deep voice. Then, his incomparable stage presence, where one moment you see him shout as if he were in mortal danger, and the next, he curls up and talks-sings as if he were just a kid. You can't help but be amazed by his uncompromising stage presence."

Afskum released their debut album on April 21, 2023.
